Since I posted my review of the eufyMake E1 UV printer a year ago, I’ve been upfront that I think it is an amazing machine with two big “gotchas.” The first is the maintenance, which is more complicated than eufyMake has implied in their marketing. The second is the ink, which comes in proprietary and expensive cartridges. Maintenance is still a concern, but iMakeStuff found a method for using third-party ink in a eufyMake E1 UV printer.
Before we go further, it is important to note that this will probably void your warranty. Internet people will say a printer manufacturer can’t void your warranty for using third-party ink. But that isn’t quite true. They can if they can make a case that the ink you used wasn’t appropriate for the printer hardware. And because UV printing is so sensitive to ink, I think they’d probably have a good chance of winning.
But if you’re brave and don’t care about warranties, this could be worth doing.
This technique is actually very simple: just put a hole in the cartridge with a soldering iron, add a threaded insert for a plug, use a syringe to inject third-party ink into the hole, then cap it. iMakeStuff demonstrated that in a video a few days ago.
However, that video left us with a couple of questions: can eufyMake prevent this and what happens when the software thinks you’ve used all the ink?
I can answer the first question for you: it would be trivial for eufyMake to prevent you from doing this, if they choose to. All it would take is a firmware or software update that doesn’t allow printing with a specific cartridge after that cartridge’s ink should be gone.
iMakeStuff answered the second question in his most recent video. You can, indeed, keep printing even after the software thinks the ink cartridge is empty. But again, it is important to note that this is only a “for now” type of thing and eufyMake can put a stop to this at any time.
