I have several custom domain gmail accounts. I read messages on my Mac (Tahoe) using mail.app.

Search never works. I will type a sender’s name, email address or title of a message I know exists but Mail will report I have 0 messages matching the criteria. I have tried restarting both the Mac and app, rebuilding the index and also:

    sudo mdutil -a -i off
    sudo mdutil -a -I on

Nothing fixes the problem. Search remains broken. I have yet to come up with a way of fixing it.

I have plenty of space on my HDD. This problem has pre-existed Tahoe.

Lately, I am sure some message are disappearing altogether. No sign in bin folder or junk. Last week, I saw one email arrive before disappearing completely. I found it as a reply in my Sent folder despite mail stating it was in my inbox. It makes no difference whether I use ‘organise by conversation’. It doesn’t appear in Gmail’s web UI either.

A few months ago, I client sent several messages which I never received. In the end, they resorted to contacting me via social media.

(All my accounts have strong passwords which I change regularly.)

Do these problems sound familiar to anyone? Is it obvious what they’re indicative of? What’s the fix?
