Edge computing provider Blaize has secured a $120M contract that has allowed it to launch a hybrid AI platform in APAC countries, including India, Japan, China, South Korea, and Indonesia. Deployed in collaboration with Starshine Computing Power Technology, the first phase is set to begin in fiscal Q3 2025 and continue throughout 2026.
Blaize will focus initially rolling out its solutions for smart city applications in the APAC, with its hybrid AI platform tailored to match the goals and needs of each country.
The platform will target fast-growing sectors like smart city surveillance, industry, retail, security, and agritech. It has been designed to support advanced AI-powered video analysis systems, and is capable of analysing large amounts of video data in real time to improve security and monitoring.
Dinakar Munagala, co-founder and CEO of Blaize, said, “Asia represents a $112B opportunity for next generation intelligent systems, and inference is leading the charge.”
Many APAC countries are investing in AI infrastructure to help boost economies, improve city planning, and deal with climate challenges. Flexible, scalable AI setups are becoming a popular approach to achieve these goals, with hybrid AI infrastructure deployment enhancing public services and improving industrial automation.
Blaize’s platform will also help automation and predictive maintenance in industries like manufacturing, energy and logistics, and could help organisations streamline operations and identify issues in machinery and associated systems before downtime has significant impact on operations.
In retail, Blaize uses edge AI to provide store security in real-time, plus the company sees multiple use-cases for agricultural resource optimisation in the APAC region.
Blaize’s AI platform is built on its Graph Streaming Processor, and its Pathfinder and Xplorer edge platforms offer low power, low latency operations on 16 on-device GPU cores, designed for inference to take place the network edge.
Blaize and Starshine’s new hybrid AI computing clusters will combine Blaize AI chips with traditional GPU-based systems, with the aim of supporting existing GPU infrastructures to help create flexible and scalable GPU infrastructures, resulting in better energy efficiency per unit of compute.
According to Teng Ma, Chairman of Starshine, “Hybrid AI is no longer an experiment; it’s infrastructure.”
