After upgrading to Tahoe I’ve been getting regular annoying panics while the system is unattended, i.e. when it’s running the screensaver and whatever runs in the background.
It’s a mac-pro (2019 intel, 16-core, 96GB, AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB) running the latest Tahoe 26.2.
The WindowServer apparently becomes unresponsive and the kernel watchdog helpfully panics the whole system. Why it can’t just kill the WindowServer process I’ll never know. (This may be some bizarre interaction with my web browser or maybe some other high-impact apps, if I happen to leave with them open on the current desktop, as I see WindowServer has very high CPU activity whenever I’m on the desktop with my browser open.)
This is very annoying of course but the most annoying part is that the system then powers itself off and won’t reboot until I hit the power button again.
I have auto-boot true in the NVRAM, and systemsetup -getrestartfreeze reports “Restart After Freeze: On”.
How do I get the system to reboot automatically after a kernel panic?
