A few months ago, we told you about the upcoming WLKATA MT4, which is an affordable robotic arm intended for educational settings, hobbyists, and light-duty work. Now the WLKATA MT4 campaign has launched on Kickstarter and has already raised more than three times its funding goal.

The WLKATA MT4 is a relatively small robotic arm with 4+1 DoF (Degrees of Freedom) in a palletizer arrangement, which means the end effector mounting point always faces downward. WLKATA advertises that the MT4 has 0.1mm of precision, and the repeatability is also advertised as 0.1mm. It has a payload of 600g, a maximum reach of 359mm, and several available end effectors, including a variety of grippers and a suction cup.

In addition to the arm itself, WLKATA has announced some very interesting accessories that increase utility. There is an intriguing modular conveyor system that users can assemble to move objects to and from the arm. And there is an AGV rover base to make the MT4 mobile. On top of that, WLKATA will provide relevant APIs, 3D models, and code, so owners can expand the capability of their MT4 robots.

The MT4 stands out because it sure seems like it would be ideal for both educational purposes and for some genuine work in the real world. It isn’t an industrial robot by any means, but is has enough performance and practicality to do jobs like packing and assembly. And it is affordable enough for classrooms, makerspaces, hobbyists, and even kids that have generous parents.

To that end, WLKATA has made the MT4 compatible with a wide range of programming styles, environments, and languages. Users can control an MT4 without any coding at all, through a smartphone app, an LLM AI, or voice control. Or they can code behavior through beginner-friendly graphical programming environments all the way up to ROS, MATLAB, Arduino, and NVIDIA Omniverse. There are a lot of possibilities and paths suitable for just about every level of experience.

If you want a WLKATA MT4 robotic arm, you have until September 12th to back the Kickstarter campaign. Super early birds can get the MT4 Essential Kit for $569 and that includes the MT4 itself, a servo gripper end effector, a pen holder, and extender box. Several add-ons, like the aforementioned end effectors, conveyor system, and AGV rover base, are also available. Rewards should ship to backers in December of 2025.
