Broadcom is announcing that the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Cloud Console will transition to a new VCF Cloud Console platform on April 24, 2025, and anticipating the release of a new major version of the VCF Usage Meter 9.0 around the same time.
What is the Impact:
During the transition, the downtime period is expected to take two (2) days (April 22 & 23). During this time:
- VMware Cloud Service Provider (VCSP) partners will be able to access the UI of the current console in read-only mode and existing API operations will be available.
- Partners will not be able to access usage data for their own or their customers’ accounts via the cloud console UI.
- Partners will not be able to register any new VCF Usage Meters through the cloud console UI.
- Usage Meter deployed on-prem should continue—usage data will continue to be collected by the Usage Meter appliances and communicated to the cloud upon registering the new deployment in the new VCF Cloud Console.
We strongly recommend that partners download all relevant reports from their VCF Usage Meter instances before the blackout period to ensure smooth operations.
What’s Changing and What’s Staying the Same?
There are several portals associated with your VCSP business interactions with Broadcom, each serving a specific purpose:
- Broadcom Support Portal: No changes. This portal provides viewing and managing of contracts, raising support tickets, and generating or modifying license keys. It also includes the Consumption Portal tab, depending on your roles and permissions.
- Partner Portal: No changes. This portal provides access to partner-related documentation and important update notifications.
- VMware Cloud Foundation Cloud Console: Previously located at console.cloud.vmware.com, this portal for VCF Usage Meter registration and downloading metering reports is transitioning to vcf.broadcom.com.
- On-Premises VCF Usage Meter Appliance: These local metering appliances will require an upgrade to VCF Usage Meter 9.0 within 90 days of its release.
- Incorta (Usage Meter Engine): This reporting tool, which connects usage data to contracts, will remain unchanged.
Action:
As part of this update, existing VCF Usage Meters must be upgraded to VCF Usage Meter v9.0 (when generally available) to integrate with their own oAuth App. This upgrade must be completed within 90 days of the release of the VCF Usage Meter 9.0. The upgrade process for Usage Meter versions 4.7 and 4.8 will begin with generating an oAuth App for your currently registered VCF Usage Meter, followed by an in-place upgrade to version 9.0, older versions of Usage Meter will be required to upgrade to 4.6.1 and utilize the new oAuth app also.
Steps to Help You Prepare Now:
- Validate existing Usage Meter versions and plan for an estate-wide upgrade to ensure compliance.
- Finalize the swap of VMware license keys to Broadcom license keys to ensure the new VCF Cloud Console platform will capture metered data, as only active VCF Usage Meter instances that communicate Broadcom license keys will be migrated.
