Large healthcare companies are turning to cloud platforms as they try to connect fragmented health data and create new digital services for patients. A new initiative from CVS Health shows how one of the largest healthcare providers in the US is using cloud infrastructure to build a system designed to link data and care providers in the healthcare network.

CVS Health is developing a new consumer health platform with support from Google Cloud. The system, a new consumer health platform initiative referred to as Health100, is expected to launch some time in 2026 and aims to give people tools to manage health information and access healthcare services through a single digital environment. According to Reuters, the project is part of a broader effort by CVS Health to create a more connected digital healthcare experience for patients.

The platform is designed to work in different parts of the healthcare system not inside a single company network. The goal is to allow users to manage health information and connect with care services even if their provider or pharmacy is not part of CVS Health’s own network.

Reports say the system is intended to connect data from different parts of the healthcare ecosystem. By linking datasets, the platform may help patients see a more complete picture of their healthcare information and available treatment options.

The project is being built on Google Cloud infrastructure. Cloud platforms are used to manage medical records and analyse clinical data, and support digital health tools.

According to reporting on the partnership, the platform will use Google Cloud’s healthcare data services and artificial intelligence tools available through its cloud environment. These tools can help developers organise healthcare datasets and create applications that work in different data sources.

CVS Health executives have said the system will focus on improving how patients interact with healthcare services. The platform is intended to help people navigate the healthcare system, find care options, and manage health information in one place.

    Connecting data in healthcare networks

CVS Health operates one of the largest healthcare networks in the US. The company runs more than 9,000 retail pharmacies and more than 1,000 walk-in and primary care clinics, according to company data. It also owns Aetna, one of the largest health insurance providers in the country.

Managing data in such a network can be complex. Many healthcare organisations operate separate software systems that do not easily share information, including pharmacies, clinics, and hospitals. When systems remain isolated, patients and healthcare workers may have difficulty accessing complete medical records.

Cloud platforms offer a way to connect these systems without requiring every organisation to operate the same internal software. Data can be stored in shared cloud environments where applications can access and update records in multiple services.

Healthcare organisations have historically been cautious about moving sensitive information to cloud platforms. Medical data is subject to strict privacy rules, and healthcare providers must meet detailed regulatory requirements governing how patient information is stored and accessed.

Cloud providers now offer services designed to meet those requirements. These include data encryption systems, access controls, and auditing tools that allow healthcare organisations to track how medical records are accessed and used.

Cloud platforms and digital health services

The CVS Health project also highlights how major cloud providers are expanding their role in healthcare technology. Cloud platforms are used increasingly by healthcare organisations to support data storage and data analysis.

Many healthcare companies are building new cloud-based systems with their existing technology infrastructure, allowing organisations to add new digital services and continue to operate legacy healthcare software that still supports clinical operations.

Projects like Health100 show how healthcare providers are experimenting with new ways to connect healthcare services through cloud platforms. More details about the project may emerge at The Check Up, Google’s annual healthcare technology event.
